History & Mission

Mission Statement

To promote and expand the art of dance to all segments of the local community by providing the highest caliber of training in the region, and offering quality performances that will educate and enrich a wide variety of audiences, and making dance accessible to our community.

History of Piedmont Dance Theatre

Piedmont Dance Theatre was founded in September of 2003 in a modest one-room dance studio in the heart of Cannon Village. The Company’s inaugural production of The Nutcracker, on December 20th, 2003 at the Glenn Center in downtown Concord, N.C., was presented to two sold-out and enthusiastic audiences.

Since the company’s inception, PDT has offered performances by world-renowned choreographers such as Septime Webster, Sasha James, Jose Limon, and most notably George Balanchine. The company has also had the opportunity to showcase dancers affiliated with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet and more. The level of dance presented by PDT in the Cabarrus/Rowan county region is unprecedented.

Piedmont Dance Theatre’s repertory is extensive and includes: Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan, A Pirates Tale, The Nutcracker, and famous non-story ballets including George Balanchine’s Who Cares? and Serenade.

The Company has also maintained its commitment to creating and sustaining relationships with businesses and organizations in the community. Some of the partnerships formed are with the Kannapolis City Schools, The Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital, Village Fest, Wings of Eagle Ranch, and the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra.

Rebecca Wiley, director and founder, has made it her life’s work to present the most affordable and highest quality dance performances and training available. She expects the best from her staff, performers and volunteers, and because of her high standards, Piedmont Dance Theatre continues to awe and inspire those who attend.
